System Installations

The following information applies to the installation of air compressors, vacuum pumps and systems as well as all floor mounted system components such as dryers, water/oil separators, large floor mounted filters and other floor mounted rotating equipment such as generators and pumps.

Location Selection Is Critical

The first step is the location selection. Adequate access must be allowed for service and maintenance. Inadequate room may cause routine maintenance to be ignored. Cooling air flow is paramount. Inadequate cooling air flow will result in elevated operating temperatures. This shortens lubricant service life as well as nuisance shut-downs during warm or hot seasons.

Surface Preparation

Initial surface preparation will determine the success or failure of any installation. Cleaning, painting and installation of anchoring systems before placing the unit is paramount.

Selection of Anchoring Method

Selecting the type of anchoring materials and utilization of the correct technique assures the long term stabilization of the unit. compliance with local building and seismic codes will be assured.

Use of Housekeeping Pads

The use of a housekeeping pad (typically a raised 4″ to 6″ elevated concrete pad) will assure the unit is above and thereby protected from spills and flooding. Cleaning is much easier. Installation of tank drains and the associated piping is convenient as well. In some cases this type pad is part of the project specification/s. “J” bolts, if used, are typically part of pad construction.

Cleaning After Completion of Installation

All construction debris , scraps and dust must be removed upon project completion. Large debris creates a trip hazard. Scraps may cause fouling of cooling fans. Dust will collect on surfaces of fin/fan heat exchangers . Dust will also clog inlet and cabinet filters, Left-behind paint cans and buckets create hazardous material situations. Fire hazards are also a possibility.
